Corbels at Romsey - Home Page

Corbel :- stone, wood or other material built into a wall, which juts out to support a structure above. Not be confused with gargoyles which are waterspouts used to throw water away from a building.

Romsey Abbey has approximately 500 Corbels, arranged in 56 groups known as 'Tables'. A sample may be viewed here; they are from five locations around the north, south and east sides of the Abbey.
